A Brief History
Previously known as the Meltdowns ('97-'01), Blue Star Creeper played their first show in the Fall of '01. Kelly Blanchard and cellist Peter Goddeyne began collaborating in November of '99. Drummer Andrew Linnemann and Kelly Blanchard played together in a band called Yab Yum from '93-'96. He joined Blue Star Creeper upon moving back to Seattle in '01. Bassist Chandra Cogburn recently left the band to attend the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Her capable replacement is former Meltdown Stephen Palmer.
Seattle musician/producer Kelly Blanchard is the driving force behind Blue Star Creeper. Kelly has been performing and recording regularly in the Seattle area since 1990 in projects such as The Somethings, Way Beyond, Yab Yum, The Meltdowns National Two-Ply, and currently Blue Star Creeper. General descriptions such as "Chamber Pop" and "Indie rock with strings," have been directed toward the band so far. Some musical reference points are: Pete Townshend, Built To Spill, Radiohead, U2, Guided By Voices, Swell, Patti Smith, P.J. Harvey, R.E.M., Yo La Tengo, The Velvet Underground, Jeff Buckley, and Mark Lanegan... all on a modest level.
Blue Star Creeper Live
The current live unit is a guitar, bass, drums and cello quartet. Recently the band has
played shows at The Re-bar, The Monkey Pub, Lock & Keel, Industrial Cafe, Mr. Spot's Chai House, The Nico Art Gallery, Real Networks company picnic at Remlinger Farms, and on the cable access TV show 29 Live. The band has been well received by a wide range of audiences and venue staff.
Hammer & Anvil Records
Hammer & Anvil Records is the home label for Blue Star Creeper and Cleopatra Park Productions. The label specializes in small batch runs of CDR's with home made covers at this stage. Our distribution is on a mail order and hand delivered basis - very grass roots. Huh? The malleus (hammer) and incus (anvil) are small bones of the inner ear. Thanks for listening!
Cleopatra Park
Cleopatra Park is Kelly Blanchard's analog 8 track basement studio, specializing in small independent projects. Credits include Blue Star Creeper, The Meltdowns, Yab Yum, Coriander, Nevada Bachelors, Avant Gardens (Pop Interstate), 20 lb. Gumball, Porter Harp, Yossarian, Carpool Tunnels, Fleece Bikini, and National Two-Ply. Cleopatra Park is the old city name of the studio's neighborhood.
